Witchcraft...

Witches and witchcraft are no longer what they were thought to be. Gone are the pacts with the Devil, the evil imp familiars and toe-curling curses. In their place we find a vital religion practising spiritual equality and seeking the improvement of the world. This new religion finds fertile soil for its rapid and increasing growth in today's social climate of post-Christianisation and re-enchantment.

...the Future?

The Future of WitchcraftOld Ways, New Directions:
Evaluating Witchcraft from its Earliest Beginnings to its Future Potentialities

How have the old ways of religious engagement with the natural world met with new ways, of gender equality and a religion called Witchcraft, and what new directions do they move in?

—Quoted from Witchcraft Out of the Shadows (2004).

CONTENTS

Shadows of the Past

The shadows of the past still lie over Witchcraft. They always will.

—Quoted from Witchcraft Out of the Shadows (2004).

Were the witch-goddesses of the ancient world the embodiments of evil?
What effect did Christianity have upon Paganism?
How was witchcraft salvaged from Christian demonisation?

After Christianity

Christianity in the West is in crisis...

—Quoted from Witchcraft Out of the Shadows (2004).

What are the reasons for this crisis?
How deep does this crisis go?
Are some countries more affected than others?
    What beliefs are replacing Christianity?

The Re-Enchantment of the World

When a famous and influential pioneer of the study of human society examined the nature and conditions of the modern world in which we live he characterized it as 'disenchanted'.

—Quoted from Witchcraft Out of the Shadows (2004).

    What is disenchantment?
    What is re-enchantment?
    Is re-enchantment taking place?

Conclusion

What does post-Christianity and re-enchantment mean for witchcraft and for the rest of us?

In Witchcraft Out of the Shadows I answer all of these questions.
